On hearing
about Brahma's favour to Vikhasini, Narada rushed to Satyaloka and took
his own father to task. He taunted him saying that he had out-done even
Lord Shiva in granting indiscreet boons to underserving seekers. These
words of Narada left Brahma pondering and lastly he ascribed all these
undesirable developments to the machinations of Lord Vishnu. Narada and
Brahma decided to warn Lord Shiva of the future developments. They left
for Kailasa with Saraswathi, consort of Brahma.
In Kailasa,
Brahma, Saraswthi and Narada were warmly welcomed by Parvathi. She evinced
great interest in knowing the purpose of their unexpected visit, They
apprised Lord Shiva and her of the developments resulting from the penance
of Vikhasini, queen of demons. Lord Shiva too wondered at the inscrutable
acts of Vishnu and His visitors to Vaikunta along with Parvathi.
In
Vaikunta, Lakshmi was ministering her devine consort Lord Vishnu. She
noticed Lord Vishnu smiling to himself as He sat reclining on Mahashesha.
Her curiosity was tickled and she goaded Vihsnu to reveal to her the cause
of his smile. He asked her to the form of Brahma and Shiva with their
consorts with Narada. just then the group reached there.
After treating them with due hospitality
Sri Hari asked them as to what had made them take the pain of coming over
to Vaikunta. Shiva narrated to him the story of Vikhasini in detail. The
evil intentions of Vikhasini enraged Parvathi and Saraswathi. They
volunteered to teach her the lesson of her lift. But Lord Vishnu quietened
them and said that when the opportune time comes , they would join
together to find a lasting solution to the problem. Their fears having
been allayed the visitors returned to their abodes.
Dreaming
about her rosy future Vikhasini prepared herself for meeting Lord Shiva.
She decided to discard her true form and disguise herself as Parvathi and
doing so chose a place where she could meet Shiva. She made a Shiva Linga
and began meditating on Lord Shiva.
The
spring season came. In Kailasa,Lord Shiva, who had tamed his mind began to
feel a new kind of inexplicable sensation. He found it hard to meditate.
His feet led him wandering about the hills. He reached a certain spot where the natural surrounding was
quite captivating. There was cool breeze, music of the birds, meandering
meadows, dancing peacocks. These sensuous sights made Shiva long fOr the
company of Uma. He was led to the place where Vikhasini in the guise of
Uma was awaiting him. Seeing Uma Lord Shiva was over-whelmed with the
desire for carnal pleasures. He was obliged by Uma and they went under
cover. The boon of Brahma began to come to fruition.
Vikhasini
left the place with a deep sense of fulfilment. As she directed her
foot-steps towards her kingdom a lurking fear slowly began to besiege her.
The Devatas, always malicious and scheming might harm the foetus in her
womb, this feeling became her obsession.
The
subjects of Shonithapura were extremely happy to have their queen back to
rule them. Vikhasini shared with them the story of her success and also
her fear. They all suggested her to seek help from Bhoodevi. With her
permission the foetus could be hoarded inside the earth. The idea seemed
quite practical and Vikhasini acted accordingly.
The gestation
period of Sukhasini's foetus was over. Fully grow:n, it forced its way
f.rom the bosom of the earth with a thunder like sound, sending shock
weaves all over. Thus, a mighty demon was born. Over-whelmed by hunger he
looked for food and seeing a palace
at a distance rushed there. Vikhasini saw her son and fed him to his fill.
The new-born baby wanted to know all about his birth and parentage.
Vikhasini acquainted him with all the things he needed to know. She named
him Andasura and instilled in him a burning desire to take revenge on Lord
Vishnu and the Devatas. Fired by his mother's words, Andasura promised her
that her life's mission would be fulfilled.
